AROUND six per cent of patients left Barnsley Hospital’s accident and emergency department before being treated last month.

Figures from NHS England show 8,824 patients visited in October.

That was a rise of seven per cent on September’s figures, but one per cent lower than last year.

Only 64 per cent of arrivals were seen within four hours, against an NHS target of 95 per cent.

The average time someone had to wait for treatment was 94 minutes - although around six per cent of patients left before being treated.
