A TREE which was mistakenly cut down in Hoyland has been replaced - much to the delight of a local councillor.

As part of ongoing works to transform and improve Hoyland town centre, contractors mistakenly cut down a tree which was supposed to stay.

This angered local residents who were ‘baffled’ at what they saw.

But last week, another tree was added to the site to compliment the new-look town centre.

Coun Tim Shepherd, who represents the area, told the Chronicle: “The tree being taken down was a misunderstanding.

“We promised to replace it as soon as possible and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

“The town centre regeneration project is now progressing and it will be finished by the end of the month.”
