A RAILWAY commuter who failed to pay a £7.30 fare before being stopped at Barnsley Interchange has been hit with a £465 bill.

Ahmad Mujje, 28, travelled from Wakefield Kirkgate to the town centre - a journey of less than ten minutes - on March 13.

According to court documents, he could not pay for the fare and was directed to pay the outstanding amount within a 21-day period as a ‘goodwill gesture’.

However, he failed to pay and a fixed penalty notice was issued thereafter.

He was due to attend Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on Monday but failed to do so and was fined in his absence.
