SCORES of incidents of violence were recorded in Barnsley’s primary schools last year.

A total of 43 reports were lodged with Barnsley Council from teachers and support staff, a report revealed.

More than 80 per cent was recorded as ‘physical’, with the remainder classed as ‘verbal’, while one incident involved a weapon.

The report added: “Our firm zero tolerance policy towards violence and aggression to staff has been used effectively in holding perpetrators to account.”
