FIREFIGHTERS are making good progress at a blaze on Grange Lane which started yesterday teatime.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have released photos of the fire at the recycling centre which at its height, had six fire engines and a high volume pump on the scene with the fire service advising nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.
Earlier today, a fire spokesperson revealed that about 80 tonnes of used mattresses were on fire and said: “The smoke from the fire has reduced considerably, but we still expect to be on the scene most of today. The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious. Do not attempt to travel down Grange Lane – you will not get through.”
The road has reopened, the fire service thanked people for their patience and said that firefighters hoped to leave the scene later today.
