BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis smashed his £15,000 fundraising target whilst running the London Marathon last weekend.
Dan was raising funds for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to his heart.
He said he knows from his own personal experience the ‘devastation’ cancer can cause - but he was also hoping to raise awareness about the ‘critical importance’ of early detection.
Dan aimed to raise £15,000 for the charity, and he’s now surpassed that target.
He completed Sunday’s London Marathon in three hours, 55 minutes and four seconds.
He said: “Catching the disease early saves lives, and anyone who notices any changes or feels that something is not quite right should get it checked out.
“This particularly applies to all the stubborn blokes out there who are notoriously bad for not bothering to go and see their GP when they think something is wrong.
“I am deeply thankful to everyone who has supported me on this journey so far.
“Together, we are marching forward in the fight against cancer and are making a real difference to those who have been affected by this cruel disease.
“The support around the course was just inspiring.
“Thank you so much to everyone who’s helped us raise thousands for Cancer Research UK.”
