FREDDIE’S horse power is making light work of a job to clear felled timber in a Barnsley woodland.
Barnsley Council’s parks service is using the special method to remove timber at Cliffe Wood local nature reserve in Dearne Valley Park.
The service has enlisted the help of Freddie, a six-year-old Belgian draft horse, to help out with forestry work. Freddie, who has been supplied by White Rose Heavy Horses, is bred and specifically trained to remove felled timber Ð a technique known as ‘horse logging’.
