MAJOR plans for a hotel, a car showroom, food and drink outlets and space for employment in Birdwell are expected to be approved this week.

The application has been submitted by Stuart Ashton, of Harworth Estates, to develop part of the former Rockingham Colliery site off the Dearne Valley Parkway.

The council is currently considering two other applications near to the site.

One is for a similar development by Hartwood Estates which includes a health centre, hotel, petrol station, shops, food and drink outlets and office and employment space.

The other is the replacement and upgrade of the A61 Birdwell Roundabout and the realignment and upgrade of links to Sheffield Road and to junction 36 of the M1.
