A PAIR of therapists are volunteering their time to raise cash for a Barnsley domestic abuse service.

Vicki Blackburn, from Manor Park, Silkstone, and Jenny Hands, from Bretton Close, Brierley, will be basing themselves at Pathways Family Support Centre on Peel Parade on Monday.

The holistic health therapists are supporting Pathways after it experienced funding cutbacks last year.

Vicki knows first-hand the help Pathways can provide, after experiencing an abusive relationship herself.

Vicki, 45, said: ”I was in a past abusive relationship myself and was sent there from my doctor. They have been absolutely brilliant and very supportive. Even after the issues have gone they can be a source of great support.

“They are a service I don’t think Barnsley can do without and everyone who uses it is loyal to it, because we know how valuable it is.

“They do a lot of work with families and not just women, men too.”

Jenny will be offering Swedish massages while Vicki will be performing reiki sessions.

Vicki added: “Reiki is really good for emotional healing so it is perfect for people accessing Pathways services. Both it and massage are helpful because it is touch, but it is not an offensive touch. It is about caring.”

Vicki and Jenny raised £100 with a similar fundraising day for the Hoyland Salvation Army on Monday.

Sessions will be offered at a discounted rate with proceeds going to Pathways.

Appointments should be made through Pathways on 731812.
