AFTER a horror smash in his first race meet, motorbiker Connor Semley didn’t let nerves get the better of him.

Connor, 24, of Kingsway, Grimethorpe, rides a Yamaha R6 and races in the Thundersport Pre-National 600 Freshman Championship.

Connor competed at Cadwell Park the same circuit where he was involved in a massive crash on his first race just a couple of months ago.

The self-employed joiner said: “I was optimistic about what the weekend would bring. Looking at the weather forecast it looked like we were in for a rough weekend.

“On Friday, free practice felt good, the track was wet to begin with but quickly dried out two sessions in.

“I put the dry tyres in and let rip. I felt comfortable and consistent heading into the first race day.”

The track appeared dry on Saturday morning but was still damp and with dry tyres on, Connor couldn’t push it as much as he wanted.

He admits he was nervous for the first race after what happened last time, but he managed to secure third place in the race and 11th overall.

He said: “I was chuffed to get on that podium again.”

Across two days of racing, Connor won four trophies and is now 6th in the championship and just 27 points away from 5th place.

He has his sights set on the last race in the series at Snetterton.
