Winter Olympic prospect Billy Wilson-French's star performance ensured he won the British title last weekend.

The confident 14-year-old, from Royston, came out on top in the advanced novice men's category at the National Ice Skating of Great Britain's British Solo Dance Championships held at iceSheffield over the weekend.

The youngster's routine to Michael Jackson songs 'You Are Not Alone' and 'Billie Jean' saw him overcome the challenges of other competitors from across the country and Northern Ireland.

Billy had only had two months to prepare for the event after he entered the season late.

Nevertheless he was a comfortable winner and is now a multiple British champion across different disciplines.

He said: "It felt brilliant and good to still hold a British title plus I over delivered on every challenge my coaches set for me.

"I have enjoyed practising my free dance Michael Jackson routine and the feedback from coaches and parents was 'outstanding' and 'excellent'."

Wilson-French has already worn the colours of Great Britain this year in an event held in Dortmund, Germany and his ultimate aim is to one day make it to the Winter Olympics to represent Team GB.
