Jacob Butterfield says he won't let the boo boys distract him tomorrow although he won't celebrate if he scores against his former club Barnsley.
It will be Butterfield's first visit back to Oakwell since he left last summer to join Norwich. He played just three times for the Canaries and was loaned out to Bolton and Palace before joining Middlesbrough this season. The 23-year-old has found his form for Boro in recent weeks and notched his first goal – a 25-yard screamer – in their 4-1 win over Yeovil last weekend.
Butterfield told the Chronicle: "I don't know what kind of reaction I'll get, being back at Barnsley, but I won't let it bother me if the fans boo – I'll just enjoy the game. I won't celebrate if I score, but I'm not much of a celebrator anyway. It's not like I go round dancing or anything. "I wouldn't do that out of respect for the Barnsley fans.
"It's a club I love, honour and respect and the club did a lot for me in the five years I was there. I look back at my spell under Keith Hill, when he made me captain and I got a call-up to the England under 21s, as the best of my career. Scouts were coming to watch me every week and it was great to play for a manager who believed in me. I feel that way under Tony Mowbray at Boro.
"I was disappointed when Keith got sacked and was surprised that Flicker got the job. I was delighted that they stayed up though and I want them to do well. Flicker is a great coach and I hope the club sticks with him. He's shown what a motivator he is and he can grind out results when they need them the most."
