NEWS that a three month closure order has been put on a town centre multi-storey car park has been welcomed.

Acting Sergeant Matt Caines, from the town centre team, told the Chronicle he was pleased the court had granted the order on the Peel Parade car park, which officers can apply to have extended after three months.

He said the temporary ‘closure’ would be used to deter and clamp down on antisocial behaviour rife in the area, which has included drug taking, heavy drinking and cars racing.

“A lot of work has gone into this between ourselves and local businesses,” said APS Caines.

“The car park will be proactively patrolled by the town centre neighbourhood team.

“It is a summary offence so anyone caught in there who isn’t legitimate will be reported on summons and a file prepared and submitted to back to the court.”
