PENISTONE mum Claire Throssell has spoken candidly for a documentary about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-husband who went on to murder their two sons in a house fire.

Jack and Paul Sykes, 12 and nine, were killed by their father Darren Sykes when he deliberately set fire to the former family home on Tennyson Close in Penistone two years ago.

Claire, 44, had separated from Sykes and had told social workers and officers from the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service that he was a bully and controlling, and had ‘physically chastised’ the children who were scared of him.

Claire said: “It’s quite a dark programme about coercive control and domestic abuse and what happened to the boys.”

The documentary is part of a six-epsiode series, which will be shown on ITV in April.
