A CONTROVERSIAL housing scheme in Royston has been approved - despite a 155-signature petition opposing the ten-home development.

Barnsley Council’s planning board members ruled in favour of applicant Chris Noble, who wants to build off Park Avenue, after visiting the site before Tuesday afternoon’s meeting at Barnsley Town Hall.

Local residents Patricia Jones and Richard Walker spoke against the plans, claiming the development would overshadow old people’s bungalows which border the site.

Mr Walker said: “We strongly object to this. I’m 63 and I’m considered a younger one on the street so it’s frequented by older people who have opted to retire in this quiet, nice area of Royston.”
