BARNSLEY Council is pressing ahead with its plans to build 32 houses on the outskirts of the town centre - rather than selling the site straight to a housing developer.

The development at Longcar Lane on the former Longcar Professional Development site will be funded by the council itself rather than selling the site on the open market, and there will be a tender process to select a building contractor.

Coun Roy Miller said this would help ensure the development ‘complements the wider town centre regeneration work’, and means that four of the properties will become council properties rented at affordable levels.
