BARNSLEY Council has vowed to cut back an overgrown footpath in Royston after months of complaints by local residents who blasted the local authority’s ‘lazy’ attitude.

Out-of-control weeds have been allowed to grow up to two metres high on a well-used footpath along Royston Canal, which connects Church Hill and Midland Road - a popular route used by schoolchildren every day.

Don Parkin, of Church Hill, walks his dog on the path and criticised the council for failing to act quicker - despite mounting complaints in recent months for attention to be finally given to the area.

“It’s unacceptable how bad it is,” the 68-year-old told the Chronicle. “It hasn’t been cut back for several months and I’ve made so many calls to the council about it but nothing has been done."
