SHIRLEY and Arthur Trickett met at a dance in Hoyland when they were both sweet 16 - and Arthur couldn't take his eyes off his bride-to-be.

The diamond couple are now celebrating 60 years of happy married life. Shirley, 78, said: "He said he loved me straight away as soon as he saw me and we went on to get married at St Andrew's church in Hoyland when I was 18."

Shirley was working at the time at the Izal factory in Chapeltown and Arthur, now 79, was a miner at Pilley. The couple went on to have three children - two boys and a girl - seven grandchildren and eight grandchildren.

The couple celebrate their diamond wedding today (Thursday).
