TWO bright sparks from a Barnsley school have made it through to the world final of a maths competition run by car manufacturer Jaguar.

Jack Florence and Adam Chappell, year nine students at Darton College, have earned a place in the Jaguar Maths in Motion World Final, taking place on Wednesday at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire.

The challenge has been running for 16 years across 12 countries and aims is to help raise achievements in maths and increase motivation by showing maths can be ‘fun and purposeful’.

The challenge involves using maths to set up virtual ‘cars’ to race in formula one style competitions. Their cars are then pitched against other schools in heats until the final cars qualify for the World Final.
