A DECISION on the future of Barnsley Council’s in-house school meals service is set to be made later this month, it has been announced.

Senior officers are considering a report which recommends its existing service is abolished - because it does not expect to make a profit - meaning the 49 schools currently using the service would need to find someone else to provide meals to 8,000 children across the borough.

The proposals will be decided on by ruling cabinet members at a meeting at Barnsley Town Hall on May 29.
