THERE’S no need to walk 500 miles to see the Proclaimers - they’re gonna be appearing at the Underneath the Stars Festival in Cawthorne next year.

The duo, twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid, join Billy Bragg and Kate Rusby as headline acts.

The Proclaimers emerged 31 years ago with their debut album This Is The Story. They have enjoyed huge success across the globe, and are particularly well-known for their instantly recognisable 1988 hit I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).

Joining them is singer/songwriter Billy Bragg who has also been a political campaigner for more than 35 years. Billy was honoured with the PRS Outstanding Contribution to British Music award at the Ivor Novello awards in May. Award-winning folk singer Kate Rusby, who is from Cawthorne, will also perform.

Underneath The Stars will take place at Cinderhill Farm in Cawthorne from August 2 to 4 and promises another set of performances from established and emerging talent across the folk, roots, bluegrass, fusion and Americana music worlds.

Surrounded by forestry, the colourful festival is home to two covered stages in circus style big-top tents. The music programme runs alternately, meaning there is little chance of missing performances.

Alongside the musical attractions will be lively street-arts performers, storytellers, art installations, enticing workshops, circus activities and food vendors.

Festival director Emma Holling said: “The festival continues to evolve and generate unprecedented strength in the community. We simply love how everyone looks after each other and how in turn everyone looks after the festival as if it were their own. There is something incredibly special about this that we are truly humbled by. Not only is it an event where people can indulge their craving for international and local music, people from all walks of life can feel welcome and part of our bigger festival family.”

Additional band announcements will be made in the New Year.
