FRAUDSTERS posing as officials have stolen cash from several elderly people across the borough, after convincing them to let them into their homes.

Several incidents have been reported to the police, when men have been posing as plumbers, friends of a neighbour, and council workers.

Most of the victims - one of whom is 93 - discovered money had been taken after the bogus officials left.

A campaign has been launched by South Yorkshire Police help prevent such crimes and to help people protect themselves against becoming a victim.

Anyone with information should call Barnsley's Performance Crime Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
