A FAMILIAR face at a Grimethorpe school has retired after clocking up 35 years’ service.

Sue King worked in Milefield Primary’s front-of-house staff team, often being the first face parents and children saw upon their arrival at the school.

Although her main role revolved around keeping the school’s admin in check, the 65-year-old often doubled up as the go-to woman for treating cuts sustained in the playground.

“I’ll miss everyone so much,” she told the Chronicle. “I’ve seen different generations come through the doors and some former pupils, who are now grandparents, have had their own children and now grandchildren at Milefield.

“It’s a fantastic place but I’m now looking forward to relaxing.”

Headteacher Paula Murray, who has been at the school for 20 years, paid tribute to Sue’s service.

She added: “Parents created a memory book for Sue to take away with her as she’s been a part of everyone’s lives for so long. She’s the friendly face, the rock who’s always been there so she will be very much missed.”
