George Williams admits he doubted whether he would get another chance in the Barnsley side but is delighted after a brilliant week.

The 22-year-old signed from non-league Worcester in 2014 but his only start came last February and his chances of a Football League career seemed to be diminishing. But injuries to Aidy White and Lewin Nyatanga have given the right-back a route back into the team out of position at left-back. He cleared shots off the line in the wins over Rochdale on Saturday and Bradford on Tuesday where he set up the winner.

Williams said: "I am really, really happy to be back in the starting 11 after quite a frustrating time.  You just have to keep working hard and see what happens. "I wasn't expecting another chance but I am really happy to have it.

"I got some experience on loan at Barrow (in the National League) and I have enjoyed playing with the under 21s and learning off all of the coaches. I am not a natural left-back but I have worked a lot on it in training and the under 21s and I am getting more comfortable there.

"With the assist, I just looked up, saw Marley (Watkins) running and put it in a good area then he put a good finish on it. It was a great start to the game."

Former MK Dons youngster and Loughborough University graduate was delighted with the clean sheet at Bradford. He said: "Myself and James (Bree) have only just come into the team and there has been a lot of shuffling about but I thought we looked like we had played together for a while."

Head coach Lee Johnson, who had not started Williams until this week, said: "Willo has been outstanding. "I think he is better at left-back than right-back even though he is right- footed. We have been playing him there in the under 21s because we thought this could happen if we were unlucky with an injury like we have been with Aidy White. George could have been man of the match in both games this week."
