Adam Hammill says tomorrow's visit of Bolton Wanderers is Barnsley's biggest match since the 2016 play-off final.

The winger also says staying up this season would match the achievement of that promotion and that he would swap his two Wembley goals two years ago for survival in the Championship.

Hammill said: "I think it's the biggest game since the play-off final and I can't wait for it. Staying up would be as big an achievement as what we did two years ago and I would sacrifice those goals for safety. It's a massive, massive game. We need to embrace it, enjoy it and thrive off the pressure.

"It's a game where every player could make themselves a legend for Barnsley. We're going to have thousands of people watching from the stands who would do anything to be playing on that pitch so we need to show them we know what it means to wear that shirt."

Hammill has been back involved in the side in the last three games after being left out by new head coach Jose Morais for six matches. He said he could play in Morais' 4-3-3 and added: "Good players can adapt to any formation. It's just a preference. It can be mentally draining being left out but we're paid well enough to handle these situations. If I threw my toys out of the pram it wouldn't make any difference, apart from I would be out for longer.

"I might have been doing things differently in training to what I am doing now. If you keep working hard in training, the cream rises to the top. I took in what he wanted from me and I've been like a sponge, learning a lot off him. Managers who come from different cultures have different ways, I have taken everything on board and got behind him. There hasn't been any clash between me and Jose, I get on with him."

Hammill has dropped down from the Premier League before but is determined not to slip into League One. He said: "I was relegated with Wolves but I didn't feature very much and there wasn't much I could do. I know the disappointment of being relegated. You are inconsolable, and you take the burden and the weight.

There is the other side of staying up, which I have experienced as well. I am sure it will be high drama right to the wire but hopefully we can be out of the mix come May 6. I am sure we will stay up."
