THE multi award-winning Elsecar Park needs votes in a contest to find the nation’s favourite green areas.

Back in July the park was awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for the 11th year running for the exceptional upkeep and high quality of the park and local reservoir nature reserve.

A Green Flag award is a scheme organised by Keep Britain Tidy that aims to find the best-kept, high quality parks around the UK.

The award is only given to parks and green spaces of exceptional quality and there are around 1,900 places in he UK that have achieved this award.

Now Elsecar Park needs votes to be crowned the winner of the Green Flag People’s Choice Award 2018.

This award lets people vote for the best green spaces that have already been awarded a Green Flag award and the top ten are crowned with the People’s Choice.

Coun Jenny Platts, Barnsley Council’s cabinet spokesman for communities said: “We are so pleased to see Elsecar park acknowledged once again in these awards.

It would be wonderful to see it recognised as a nation’s favourite. It is a beautiful location in our borough and a fantastic example of some amazing work carried out by both staff and volunteers.

“I’d like to encourage people to take a couple of minutes and vote for it online.”

Voting for the competition closes Sunday September 30. To vote simply click the vote button on the right-hand side of the Elsecar Park page at Greengflag.org.
