North Gawber lost 2-0 to Maltby Main in the last 16 of the Sheffield Cup in a match dedicated to their late manager Nicholas Bedford on Tuesday.
The match was held at Athersley Rec who donated all proceeds from the gate receipts to Bedford's family. Nicholas died last month after an incident in a town centre bar and his son Jake played in the game against Maltby who are two divisions above Gawber and will now face another Barnsley side Shaw Lane Aquaforce in the quarter-final.
Athersley Recreation got a fourth win in six games with a late comeback in a 2-1 home success at home to Pontefract Collieries in the Northern Counties East Premier Division. The visitors took the lead early in the second half but new Rec signing Ryan Pleasants levelled in the 77th minute before he set up the 86th-minute winner for fellow recent arrival Joe Thornton.
Grimethorpe Sports netted three goals in extra-time to knock top flight Ecclesfield Red Rose, who play a league above them, out of the County Senior League Cup with a 4-1 win. Former Barnsley striker Steven Bennett scored two while the other scorers were Connor Howell and Bayden Lockwood.
In the South Yorkshire Amateur League, Herring was the hat-trick hero as Working Wonders cruised to a 9-2 success at home to bottom club Davy reserves. Matthew Robson added two while the other scorers were Reece Johnstone, Alex Bamford, Francis Alderson and Joe Leonard.
