ALTITUDE sickness, heat and humidity are some of the challenges facing a Barnsley woman who is embarking on a trek in Nepal to raise money for the hospice.

Joanne Ruston, 44, has stepped up to the challenge as part of the national Britain V Cancer event and will join 50 others from around the country on the expedition.

Joanne, who works for Penistone FM and is editor of a community magazine, starts the six-day trek on April 1, walking to a summit of about 3,500 metres high in the stunning Annapurna region of the Himalayas.

“I saw it advertised in the back of a slimming magazine and thought I’ll do that,” said Joanne, of Longsight Road, Mapplewell.
