LOOK what’s coming to Barnsley.
This September will see the arrival of an enormous inflatable structure to the town centre.
The Luminarium, a spectacular walk-through art experience by UK-based Architects of Air, is half the size of a football field and will be open to the public from September 21 to 24.
When visiting the structure which will be at Market Gate car park, visitors will encounter a phenomenon of light, shapes and colours.
The main focal point will be its 33ft high, multicoloured dome, which takes its inspiration from a 13th century English cathedral.
Designed to generate a feeling of wonder at the beauty of light and colour, the Luminarium is a treat for the senses.
Special plastic allows sunlight to pass through the installation, creating colour prisms. As the atmosphere outside the structure changes, the colours and patterns inside also change, similar to a kaleidoscope.
