Scottish substitute Jim O'Brien rescued a point for Barnsley at Mick McCarthy's Ipswich.

Town had taken the lead in the first half through a Daryl Murphy header and the Reds struggled to create any chances.

Jacob Mellis injured his ankle and was replaced by O'Brien after 42 minutes and the winger changed Barnsley's fortunes.

He scored on 70 minutes, slotting home a Paddy McCourt cross after Tommy Smith's header fell into his path. O'Brien could have won it near the end but missed a good chance while former Town man Jason Scotland fired wide from close range.

Town striker Frank Nouble had shouts for a penalty turned down in the last minute and Aaron Cresswell was sent off afterwards for using foul and abusive language.

It was Barnsley's first away point of the season.
