A PARK and ride network will be developed and key bus routes improved as part ambitious plans to give Barnsley a first rate transport system.

There will be a massive investment in transport infrastructure in the borough over the next 18 years under the new Barnsley Transport Strategy to help grow the borough's economy.

Proposals include lobbying for improved rail services, electrification, frequency and capacity; boosting connections to international airports; establishing direct rail links between Barnsley and Doncaster; looking at possibility of solar panels covering the roofs of Barnsley interchange; increasing the number of low carbon vehicles at the council and the number of electric vehicle charge points in the borough.
