CONCERNED councillors have told planning officers that Penistone need more affordable homes instead of an abundance of large properties.

Penistone Mayor Steve Marsh said: "People in Penistone are just the same as people in Cudworth; they need affordable housing. All we're getting is people coming in who are commuting to Sheffield and Manchester. All the local people are moving out. 

"My worry is that developers are going to build four and five bedroom houses here and it's going to be a cash cow."

Penistone has been identified as being able to accommodate a further 1,300 homes by 2033 in Barnsley Council's draft housing plan.
