AN INCREASED police presence has been promised after businesses complained of gangs of youth creating havoc in Montgomery Square, Wath.

Residents and shop owners in the area have reported large groups of teenagers loitering, being noisy and disruptive in the evenings.

An incident last week resulted in a window being smashed at a business.

Members of Wentworth North Safer Neighbourhood Team have reacted by increasing their patrols in the area in an attempt to stop the problem.

A spokesman said: "Any teenager caught engaging in antisocial behaviour will have their details recorded and a letter will be sent to their parents.

"If they are caught engaging in criminal damage, the punishment may be more severe."
