POLICE are asking residents to be vigilant over the summer holidays after incidents of young vandals targeting a Hoyland primary school.

Greenfield primary school in Cherry Tree Street reclaimed a piece of land on its grounds about 18 months ago to use as a 'Forest School' for special outdoor activities.

But since then youths have got in on numerous occasions and caused problems. Staff said there was a small fire at the weekend in the area which is gated and locked off from the main school.

The school's Michelle Shaw told the Chronicle: "We are now desperately trying to raise money to improve the fencing for our forest school area, as youths keep getting in during the evenings and misusing the space."
