Daniel Stendel is hoping for a quiet January transfer window, as he believes his squad is already good enough to get promotion.

The Reds are one place and two points outside the top six following a four-game winless run.But head coach Stendel – who is part of the Oakwell transfer process along with chief executive Gauthier Ganaye and the recruitment department – believes more consistency from the current players is required rather than an influx of new signings.

Stendel told the Chronicle: “My goal is not to be busy in the transfer window. We have a good squad. Sometimes we can look at new players but, for me, it is not decided that we need new players. We already have good players, we just need to play at our best in every game.”

Barnsley rejected bids of more than £1million in the summer for top-scorer Kieffer Moore and winger Brad Potts while star centre-back Ethan Pinnock has also attracted interest.

Ganaye has said that only a ‘big bid’ would see the Reds part with one of their top players while, if they do sell, they will have a replacement ready like when Cauley Woodrow came in after Tom Bradshaw moved to Millwall in August.

Stendel said: “It was not so easy that Tom Bradshaw left the club two days before the deadline, but we still have had a good season so far. I hope the players stay here but we will wait to see.”
