Barnsley were beaten 5-2 at home to Nottingham Forest on Sky TV on Friday, a result which extends their winless home run to seven matches.

There were four goals in the first 24 minutes as Sam Winnall and Marley Watkins each put the Reds ahead but Forest levelled both times. The visitors then took the lead on the stroke of half-time and extended their lead after the break with goals either side of a red card to Watkins.

Paul Heckingbottom made one change from the side that drew 0-0 at home to Wigan six days earlier, with Adam Hammill coming in for Ryan Kent.

The Reds took the lead with a fine goal in the fifth minute, ending a four-week wait for a goal in a Barnsley match either for or against them. James Bree exchanged passes with Watkins then curled in a great cross from the right which was met by a diving Winnall eader into the net.

Henri Lansbury levelled with a deflected low free-kick in the 13th minute after Adam Jackson had fouled Dan Osborn. But 73 seconds later Forest's defence tried to play Watkins offside but he was clearly on as he chested down a chipped Conor Hourihane ball and volleyed in for 2-1.

It was 2-2 midway through the first half when Danny Fox whipped in a low cross from the left which appeared to hit Apostolos Vellios and loop over home goalkeeper Adam Davies.

Aside from the goals, Barnsley had the better of the play and the chances in the first half. Hammill fired a free-kick just over and crossed another which Jackson met with a lofted header that landed on the roof of the net.

Visiting goalkeeper Vladimir Stoijkovic easily caught a Winnall header from an Adam Armstrong cross then also held a 20-yard Hammill shot after a good one, two with Watkins.

But it was Forest who took the lead in first half injury-time. Josh Scowen slipped while on the ball in the centre circle and Vellios took it deep into the Reds half before passing out to the left where Osborn crossed for Lansbury to head into the bottom left corner.

Winnall came close early in the first half when his headers first forced a save from Stoijkovic after a Bree cross then drifted just wide from Watkins' delivery.

Once again Forest netted against the run of play again when Osborn headed in a cross from Michael Mancienne. Referee Oliver Langford then sent off Watkins for an alleged stamp on Thomas Lam.

Lansbury completed his hat-trick with ten minutes to play from the penalty spot after Langford awarded a penalty for Scowen's clash with Matty Cash on the edge of the box after substitute Saidy Janko lost the ball. Scowen almost pulled one back with a header from a Hammill cross but Stoijkovic made an incredible one-handed save.
