A FORMER tennis court at Locke Park is to be given a new lease of life under plans to transform it into a £100,000 games area.

Work to revitalise the rundown court will allow sports such as basketball, five-a-side football, cricket and tennis to be played.

Friends of Locke Park chairman, David Allen, said it will add another string to the park's sporting bow and sits alongside further plans for an outdoor gym.

He said: "Then in addition we propose to use our own funds to provide a fitness trail around parts of the park so people can do a fitness course. "We're also going to have stage markers for running so that people can measure and test themselves against them in terms of distance.

"There will also be a table tennis table for people to use all year round."
