POP star Tony Hadley will headline next year’s Wentworth Music Festival, to be held once again in the grounds of stunning Wentworth Woodhouse on Saturday June 15.

As former lead singer of Spandau Ballet, Hadley has performed on some of the biggest songs of all time.

Now a successful solo artist he’s set to perform a breathtaking finale to the festival, now looking ahead to its third year something Tony told the Chronicle he was looking forward to

“I really can’t wait to play Wentworth Music Festival, the setting looks stunning. The thing I love about these kinds of local festivals is that it’s very family friendly, so when you walk out on stage and start that first chord you’ve got a crowd of children through to grandparents who are with you all the way.”

He won’t be alone on stage though; his own live band a band he’s been performing with for almost 30 years will also join him:

“What people sometimes forget is that Spandau Ballet split up in 1990 so I found myself as a solo artist 28 years ago. That was a pretty scary thought after being in a band for so long, so what I decided to do was to surround myself with great musicians and I’ve got to say they’re all amazing.

“Despite my couple of reunions with Spandau Ballet over the years, I’ve actually been a solo performer now longer than I was ever in the group.”

He got back together with Spandau Ballet in 2009 for a reunion world tour before a further tour with the band in 2015 but in 2017, he announced his departure from Spandau Ballet and has since been focusing solely on life as a successful solo artist. However, he says the songs he recorded with the group still mean a lot to him:

“It’s been an interesting time with the Spandau boys, I wish them nothing but the best. With regards to the hit songs, can I sing them and will I sing them? Yes I can and yes I will.”

Having just released his fifth solo album, Talking To The Moon, Tony is still performing to huge sell-out audiences all over the world.

Wentworth Music Festival plays host to 40 performers from the world of music and comedy across four stages, including a New Music Stage, Comedy Stage and a dedicated Kids Entertainment Stage.

You can buy tickets in person from Wentworth Village Shop, The Horsehoe in Harley and from the Barnsley Chronicle Book Shop in Barnsley town centre.
