A YOUNG cricketer has been bowled over by the chance to be a mascot for Yorkshire.

Thomas Smith, 11, from Cudworth View, Grimethorpe, will be representing Yorkshire today at Headingley as the Yorkshire Vikings’ mascot in their match against the Leicestershire Foxes, the first of the T20 season.

Thomas, who plays for Darfield Cricket Club’s under 13s team, won the opportunity after making a convincing case for why he should be given the chance in an online competition.

Mum Liz Milner said: “He will get to go pitch side, watch them train, and then walk out into the middle of the field for the toss and get a photo taken with the captain. He said he is going to take his bat to get it autographed.”
