BIG-hearted Ava-Emmy Paige-Flood made the most of a sweet idea to help tiny hearts in trouble.

The seven-year-old raised nearly £100 selling homemade lemonade from the bottom of the drive at her Gawber home.

And the money has gone to Barnsley Hospital’s Tiny Hearts appeal for a new neo-natal unit.

Proud mum Bethany said she had helped Ava-Emmy to make the lemonade which was then sold to passers-by. A link on Facebook broiught in donations from people who couldn’t get to the house and a total of £94 was raised.

“When she was born she had meningitis and spent the first three weeks of her life in hospital and she has always been fascinated by that,” said Bethany.

“We were at the hospital the other day and when she saw the incubator at the front she asked about it

“I explained about Tiny Hearts and she suggested selling the lemonade. We got so much custom.”

Bethany added that her other daughter, three-year-old Sailor-Beau, drank more than her fair share.

The family have handed the money over to the charity and Ava-Emmy will receive a certificate.

“She truly is amazing,” said Bethany. “When the money was handed over, she was so proud she cried. She was so happy.

“Now she wants to do something else and is growing her hair so she can donate it. She has really got the bug.”

The Tiny Hearts appeal was launched by Barnsley Hospital to raise £1m to help support the relocation and development of a new neo-natal unit.
