HIGH street gift and homeware shop Peter Jones - which has traded in Barnsley for a number of years - has gone into administration.
The 50-year-old retailer closed its ten Yorkshire shops - including the one on Market Street in Barnsley town centre - in March and staff have since been furloughed.
Administrators have said the Covid-19 outbreak had serious effects on the firm's finances.
There are expected to be dozens of job losses, as auditing group KPMG has said the business will not be able to resume trading.
KPMG has appointed Howard Smith and David Costley-Wood as joint administrators, with staff helping to wind down the business and existing stock being sold off.

It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
