SHOCK figures have been released detailing the areas across the borough where the most people have died with coronavirus - and one Barnsley area is one of the worst-hit in South Yorkshire.
The figures, released by the Office for National Statistics, show the number of deaths in the town from March to December 2020.
A total of 503 residents died last year with Covid - Mapplewell and Staincross was the worst-hit area as 34 of its residents died with coronavirus, the second-highest number in South Yorkshire.
Wombwell South, which had 31 deaths, and Bolton-Upon-Dearne, 29 deaths, were also among the worst in Barnsley.
Very few areas had less than ten deaths in the nine-month period - Monk Bretton had six, Goldthorpe had nine and Silkstone, Hoylandswaine and Cawthorne also had nine deaths.

Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
