A GROUP of grannies have celebrated surpassing their £1,000 fundraising goal for Barnsley Hospice.

The ‘Grabby Grannies’ meet at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road in the town centre at 1pm every Thursday, and held an auction last week in an effort to reach their goal - which brought the grand total to £1,042.

The grannies have held various fundraising events to reach their target, including auctioning off pork pies which made a huge £120.

Group member 75-year-old Judith Holling, from Dodworth, is a past Proud of Barnsley award nominee and has raised thousands for the charity over the last few years.

“We’re so happy to have raised more than the £1,000 we were aiming for, we knew we could do it at the auction,” she said.

“We’ll always carry on doing things for charity like this.

“We just hope the money will help the hospice.”
