AN injured mountain biker had to be rescued at a Barnsley beauty spot by volunteers from Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.
The incident occurred last Thursday afternoon and saw a man suffer a suspected back injury near Langsett Reservoir.
A spokesperson for the team said: “After taking a tumble from his bike, the gentleman had sustained a suspected back injury.
“As a result and given the location of the casualty, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also called in.
“When team members arrived on scene, the air ambulance crew had packaged the casualty onto their scoop stretcher and required assistance carrying the gent to their helicopter.
“After a 200 metre carry, the gentleman was in the helicopter and on his way to the hospital.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
