A FORMER prison officer from Barnsley convicted of possessing terrorist material will be sentenced next month.

Ashley Podsiad-Sharp, 42, of Cudworth, pleaded not guilty to a charge of disseminating a terrorist document at Sheffield Crown Court earlier this year.

Following his trial, he was found guilty of one offence of possessing a document which may be of use to a terrorist, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Sheffield Crown Court was told Podsiad-Sharp founded a fitness club for neo-Nazis and was found in possession of terrorist material after a copy of the White Resistance Manual - a far-right terrorist handbook - was found on his laptop in an encrypted ‘virtual safe’.

He will be sentenced on August 31.
