Smiling students at Penistone Grammar were celebrating their A Level results yesterday after 96 per cent of them achieved places at their chosen universities.
Results were an improvement on last year with a nine per cent increase in pupils attaining A* to B grades and 20 per cent of university applicants gaining places at Russell Group institutions - the top universities.
Daniel Field, 18, from Silkstone Common, will take a gap year to teach voluntarily before going to Edinburgh to study medicine after achieving four As.
"I was a bit worried because some of the exams were really tricky and I needed three As, so I'm very chuffed."
Florence Evans, 18, from Barnsley, will also study medicine after managing an A* and two As.
"I'm going out tonight now, I didn't want to make plans in case I didn't do well but I'm going to make some plans now."
Tom Cavanagh, 19, from Deepcar, attained straight As and will study zoology in Sheffield.
"I'm going to the pub with a few people for an orange juice and lemonade."
Delighted principal Jo Higgins said: "Congratulations to all our students, the results are testament to their hard work, the continued commitment of our staff and the support of parents."
Head of sixth form Andrew Gibbins added: "It's been a fantastic year group and we wish them the best for the future."
