VETERAN actor and adventurer Brian Blessed has been discussing his plans to mark his 80th birthday...he is aiming to travel to the deepest point on Earth.
He’s already climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, is the oldest man to trek to the Magnetic North Pole and he’s completed astronaut training.
But at the age of 80, Brian, who was born in Mexborough and grew up in Goldthorpe, intends to make the perilous journey to the Mariana Trench, which lies seven miles below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, becoming the first Briton ever to do so.
He told Calibre magazine: “I want to go to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in a bathysphere Ð all the way 37,000ft down.
“You must understand, I do believe death exists, despite constantly defying it. But I live out on a limb.”
