A NEW five-part BBC TV series which attempts to get Barnsley folk dancing is to begin early in the new year.

Filming for Our Dancing Town began in the summer when hundreds of Barnsley folk turned up at the Civic to meet the show’s producers - and didn’t quite know what they were getting themselves into.

The diverse array of Barnsley residents included former miners, office workers, various dance and drama group members and within minutes West End choreographer Steve Elias had them all up on their feet and running through a few steps.

Weeks later, they were dancing through the town centre in a huge ‘flash mob’ which included a brass band, members of South Yorkshire Police and even Barnsley FC mascot Toby Tyke.
