POLICE officers from Barnsley West Neighbourhood Team took part in a football match against local youngsters this week.

The match was against aspiring Barnsley Football Club players from Kendray and Worsbrough.

Barnsley Council’s Targeted Youth Support team arranged the match between the two teams and the pitches were donated free of charge by 5IVES at Kendray.

The teams played five games of football, with the final scores leaving police undefeated with four wins and one draw.

Sgt Darrell Needham said: “It was an enjoyable evening had by all, everybody had fun and it was great for the players to see the officers out of uniform and showing off their footy skills.

“I feel it’s an excellent opportunity to break down barriers with the youth of today.”
