Dimitri Cavare has lost out to a superior performer in Jordan Williams, says coach Dale Tonge.

The Frenchman had been the Reds’ first choice right-back for the majority of the season and has been named this week in the PFA Team of the Year along with four of his team-mates.

But Cavare has been dropped for the last three games and was not in the squad for the match at Plymouth Argyle on Monday, with teenager Jordan Williams impressing in his absence.

Asked about Cavare, coach Tonge said: “It’s evident that Jordan is doing really well. He’s earned his place and took his shirt. We thought at Plymouth that we had defensive cover on the bench with Linds (Liam Lindsay) coming back.”

Also in the PFA team are Barnsley’s Adam Davies, Ethan Pinnock, Alex Mowatt and Kieffer Moore.
